ABOUT ME

Regina Bernius, AMFT

Hello, I am Regina.

I am a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #144460) supervised by Amancay Ledezma (LCSW # 109491). I have always been deeply fascinated with psychology and the complexity of people’s inner worlds. Today, I am grateful to be at a place in my life where I can utilize my passion to help others improve their well-being and lead happier lives.

In my clinical work, I am passionate about helping couples and families create fulfilling relationships. Early in my career, I chose to focus specifically on couples and family therapy rather than working with a broader range of populations. This decision has allowed me to deepen my expertise in this area. Specifically, I have advanced training and continue to pursue professional growth in two leading couples therapy approaches: Gottman Method Couples Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). While I have a profound understanding and appreciation for both approaches, I am particularly drawn to EFT. I admire its strong focus on attachment as a universal human need and find its theoretical 'map' amazingly useful. As an EFT therapist, I am dedicated to helping my clients identify ineffective patterns, overcome negative cycles, and foster deeper emotional connections.

In my personal life, I cherish my roles as a wife, mother, and fun-loving friend. For me, there is no greater pleasure than savoring meaningful moments with my loved ones. In my free time, I enjoy being in nature, especially at the beach. Living in Coastal California, I feel grateful for every opportunity to breathe in the fresh, salty air and watch the waves of our magnificent Pacific Ocean.

To me, a happy life is built on peace, mindfulness, authenticity, and gratitude. I believe healthy and happy relationships are not about achieving perfection but about nurturing a secure bond marked by mutual respect, understanding, and emotional connection. I also recognize that other people might define happiness differently. I consider it a privilege to walk alongside my clients on their journey to happiness, whichever way they describe it to themselves.

Food for thought: Quote about gratitude by the Buddha

"Let us rise up and be thankful,

for if we didn't learn a lot, at least we learned a little,

and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick,

and if we got sick, at least we didn't die;

so, let us all be thankful."
